Written by Mark Chreene on September 18, 2020
Minden City Councilman Keith Beard has announced his intention to resign his seat as City Councilman for District D effective next Friday (September 25). According to Beard’s letter of resignation, Beard stated that he had been given an opportunity to be closer to his grandchildren in the Monroe area. Beard said in the letter that, “I am sorry that I wasn’t able to accomplish much over the past 21 months, but with the current makeup of the city council, it was close to impossible.” Beard encouraged citizens to be active in the city, saying “You don’t want to lose what you have.”
It is unknown at this time who will fill the remainder of Beard’s term, which expires in 2022.
The full resignation letter can be read here.

Thank you for your service. I am sorry it came to this. Given the current City Council delima, it will be a miracle if most don’t up and leave this city that I love.
