Written by Special to KBEF on August 3, 2022
Guest speaker for Thursday’s noon meeting of the Minden Lions Club will be Kevin Ypya, owner of Minden Coin & Collectibles.
Minden Coin & Collectibles is located on the red brick streets of downtown Minden. Kevin continues to keep his father’s legacy alive by honoring his love for coin collecting and now offering a storefront to serve customers. Minden Coin offers an ever-expanding line of precious metals, collectible coins, and currency for beginner collectors or investors.
Kevin’s store carries many U.S. Mint products including gold, silver and platinum American Eagles; a wide selection of certified U.S. coins; and a large assortment of U.S. Mint packaged products including annual proof and uncirculated Mint sets, as well as modern commemorative coins.
On Thursday, Kevin will showcase several coin displays and share information on the U.S. Mint in New Orleans. The New Orleans Mint operated in New Orleans as a branch mint of the United States Mint from 1838 to 1861 and from 1879 to 1909. During its years of operation, it produced over 427 million gold and silver coins of nearly every American denomination, with a total face value of over $307 million. It was closed during most of the American Civil War and Reconstruction.
The Minden Lions Club meets Thursdays at noon at the American Legion Memorial Home, located at 119 Pine St. in downtown Minden.
