Nerd Notes: Homecoming 2021 Edition

It’s the biggest home game of the season tonight as the Crimson Tide hosts the 89th annual Homecoming game. This year’s homecoming is bigger than in previous years. Due to Covid-19 protocols last year, the classes of 1950, 60, 70, 80, 90, 2000, and 2010 were not recognized on the field and will be this year along with the classes of 1951, 61, 71, 81, 91, 2001, and 2011.

Since it is the homecoming game, it is double duty for Nerd Notes for week 6 against North DeSoto.

Let’s start with Homecoming.

• Minden’s all-time homecoming record is 54-31-2
• First homecoming game was in 1932 (34-0 win over Ruston)
• Most consecutive wins on homecoming: 7 (1954-1960)
• Most consecutive losses: 5 (1999-2003)
• Most common homecoming opponent: North Caddo (13 games)
• Most wins is also against North Caddo (11)
• Most losses against: Bossier (4) (3-4 record against Bossier in Homecoming games)

There are a number of team and individual records in the series with North DeSoto, let’s start with Minden’s records first.

• Total offense: 511 yards in 2016 (#7 all-time)
• Yards per play: 10.9 in 2015 (#3 all-time)
• 1^st downs in a game: 21 in 2016 (#10 all-time)
• Penalties in a game: 15 in 2011 (#5 all-time)
• Most Interceptions thrown in game: Antonio Rivette, 5 in 2014 (#3 all –time)
• Longest Punt Return: 80 yards, Tyrone Grider in 1997 (#4 all-time)
• Longest Kickoff Return: 93 yards, Jarome Walton, 2009 (#5 all-time)

As far as North DeSoto, they have a lot of team and individual records for a relatively short amount of games played against the Tide.

And the biggest Nerd Note in the series against North DeSoto is one for the history books for sure. In 2016, Emily Frye became the first and to date, only female player in the history of Minden High football, and kicked an extra point against North DeSoto in the 35-20 home win.

That’s an awful lot of numbers, but it’s a big game tonight for Minden. Hopefully, the homecoming crowd will see the Tide break a 2 game losing streak tonight.
