Minden City Council To Try And Meet Again Today
Written by Mark Chreene on May 6, 2020
After failing to have a quorum at the April and May meetings, Minden Mayor, Terry Gardner, has called for a special meeting today at 1 p.m. in the Pelican Conference Room at City Hall. Council members were emailed the agenda, along with hard copies at their desks at City Hall. The members have been given the option of attending in person (social distancing will be observed and masks provided) or they will have a telephone conference call for those not on site. Per the email that was sent to both the council and members of media, If the council members do not reply back with intentions of either attending in person or via phone, that they will be called using the cell phone that is on file for each member.
As of the time of this posting, council members Pam Bloxom (Dist. E) and Keith Beard (Dist. D) have replied to the email with intention of being at City Hall for the meeting. Council member Vincen Bradford (Dist. C) has not yet replied and council member Terika Walker (Dist. B) simply replied, “Thanks,” but did not give an indication if she would be attending in person or via phone. Walker and Bradford have not attended the April or May meetings, causing neither meeting to be held because of a lack of quorum. Three council members must be present in order for the meeting to be held.
The agenda is identical to the Monday agenda for the regular meeting that wasn’t held and can be seen here. The meeting is not open to public due to attendance restrictions per the Governor’s Stay at home orders.
The meeting will be streamed on the City of Minden Facebook page as well as aired on AM 1240 KASO and at kbef.com.
