A graveside service honoring the life of Charles H. Lyons will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday October 16, 2020 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Minden, LA with Rev. Bill Crider officiating.

Charles passed away October 7, 2020, at the age of 87. He was born in Minden, Louisiana, on February 16, 1933. With the exception of a two year enlistment in the Army, he spent his entire life in the Minden area.

He is preceded in death by father Walter Lyons, mother Betty Kilpatrick Lyons, brothers Walter Jr., Raymond, Bobby, and Jimmy.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Moncrief Lyons of Gibsland, LA; sister Viola Crawford of Bossier City, LA; his four children, Jenny (Denny) Martin of Eminence, MO; Larry Lyons of Hendersonville, TN; Bonnie (Roy) Parish of Shreveport, LA; and Gentry (Carol) Lyons of Minden, LA. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He worked for the Louisiana Highway Department for 32 years. In that time, he worked his way up from the bottom to become one of only a handful of people in the state qualified in the inspection and certification of soil, concrete, and asphalt compaction tests. These qualifications lead to a 10-year stint with the engineering firm Aillet, Fenner, Jolly & McClelland Inc. of Shreveport.

After retiring, he spent his time at home with his wife reading political, religious, and historical non-fiction, while also working in the yard. He LOVED landscaping, planting, and watering, etc. He also had a great love of photography and music.

He was much loved and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
