Mrs. Burton was born on May 8, 1932, in Homer, LA to Bert and Cloys Caskey.  She entered Heaven on Saturday, March 7, 2020, following an illness.

Mrs. Burton was a graduate of Homer High School and Louisiana Tech University and taught her entire 33-year career at Doyline High School teaching science and home economics.  After retiring, her love of teaching continued through her Sunday school class that she taught for over 50 years at Antioch Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Minden.  Mrs. Burton also enjoyed being an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Nana adored her family including her late husband, two sons, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She took great pride in their successes and cheered each of them on throughout their journeys and was their fervent prayer warrior.

She was married for 60 years to Pierce E. Burton, Jr. (“Ponto”) and was preceeded in death by sisters Margie Lewis and Faye Monk Erwin.  She is survived by sons Mike Burton and wife Tammy of Minden, LA, Keith Burton and wife, Tina, of Shreveport LA, brothers, Ira Hodrick Caskey, and wife, Gloria of Homer, LA, Gary Caskey of Homer, LA, and John Caskey and wife Melissa of Homer, LA, grandchildren, Beau Burton and wife Lexie of Ruston, LA, Ryan Burton and wife Sarah of Shreveport, LA, Will Burton and Anna Kate Burton of Shreveport, LA, great-grandchildren Isaac and Ezra Burton.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Richard Haynie and Ivette “Angel” Sanders for compassionate care during her illness and hospitalization.  We would also like to thank the members of her Sunday School class for their love and continued prayers.  She loved you all.

In place of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org or 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105) or to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home (PO Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211).
