Jillene Parkerson Faulk, born December 26, 1954, passed away on November 13, 2020 after a brave struggle with ovarian cancer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 17th at 10:30am at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, LA officiated by Pastor Perry Anderson. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 16th from 5-7pm also at Rose-Neath in Minden.

Born as a “surprise child” to her parents, Jillene grew up in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Jillene graduated with honors from Alamogordo High School where she also participated in the Drama club. After graduating from Northwestern State University, Jillene began her career- and many legendary friendships- at the “old” Highland Hospital working as a staff nurse on 3 West. In 1979, she became Assistant Director of Nursing working alongside her best friend, Sharon Hudnell. The two of them were a force to be reckoned with in management and patient care. Jillene later also worked for Christus Schumpert St. Mary’s Campus and WK- Bossier in various positions, but her time with the “old Highland bunch” provided life-long friends and many hilarious stories. In 2000, Jillene completed her Master’s in Business Administration from Centenary College.

During retirement, Jillene worked as an art liaison for the Barnwell Center, was a member of the Piney Hills Master Gardeners, and leader of the Athens Methodist Church choir. She enjoyed spending time with Al, art, reading history books and mystery novels, teaching Sunday school, spending time her grandchildren and family, buying too many antiques and shoes, travelling with family, afternoon naps, and collecting cats. Jillene could never have too many books, antiques, or kitties. She excelled at drawing, telling funny stories, sewing custom Christmas stockings, making pies and homemade rolls at the holidays.

Jillene was preceded in death by her loving parents, Frank and Jewel Parkerson.

She is survived by her older brother Vic Parkerson (Sandy) and former husband, but life-long companion Al Faulk; her children, Shanna Faulk Duck (Stephen), Lee Faulk (Ramsay), and Carrie Faulk Elmore (Reed); grandchildren, Sarah Duck, Allen Faulk, Will Elmore, Katie Claire Elmore, and George Everett Faulk; nieces, Katie Parkerson Jackson and Gail Parkerson; long-time best friends, Sharon Hudnell and Karen Pasekoff Nauer. Jillene is also survived by her loving feline companion of 13 years, Pearl.

Jillene leaves a legacy of love, knowledge, beauty, and kindness. She was a loving wife and mother, encouraged all three of her children to pursue advanced degrees, and give empathetic care to those in need. Even in her last days, which were often difficult, Jillene was known by all to wear a sweet smile and speak kindly. May she rest in peace and joy until we meet again.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Willis-Knighton Cancer Center and the staff of The Carpenter House with special thanks to Susan, Nancy, Jan, and Tyra for their extraordinary love and care.

Pallbearers for the service are Paul Cook, Buzzy Buckner, Ray Spurlock, Clay LeGendre, Mitch Marsalis and Justin Marsalis. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Jarrell and the men of Athens United Methodist Church.
