Nerd Notes: Homecoming 2024 Edition

I have been a slacker this year and haven’t done what is my favorite part of prepping for a football game that I share ahead of time…NERD NOTES!
We are at the halfway point of the season already, and it is Homecoming this weekend at Minden High School. So, there is no better time to debut Nerd Notes than now! So, let’s dig in!
First, let’s talk Homecoming!
- This year is Minden’s 91st The first Homecoming game recorded, was in 1932, a win over Ruston, 32-0. Minden’s overall record on Homecoming is 54-34-2.
- Minden has faced 27 different teams in those 91 Homecoming games, the most common opponent is Vivian/North Caddo at 12 games. (Minden leads 10-2)
- The most losses to an opponent on Homecoming belongs to Bossier, who Minden has a 5-4 record against on Homecoming.
- Some of the biggest wins on Homecoming include:
- 1935 vs. Mansfield 54-0
- 1958 vs. St. John’s (Loyola) 56-13
- 1980 vs. Northwood 43-0
- 1981 vs. North Caddo 45-0
- 1987 vs. Loyola 42-7
- 1988 vs. North Caddo 55-6
- 1998 vs. North DeSoto 42-6
- They’re not all fun, some of the worst losses on Homecoming include:
- 1940 vs. Bossier 0-25
- 1942 vs. Bastrop 0-25
- 1945 vs. Springhill 0-25
- 1972 vs. Haughton 19-47
- 1978 vs. Neville 0-39
- 2001 vs. Mansfield 6-41
- There have been two ties on Homecoming:
- 1941- Minden and Haynesville 0-0
- 1964-Ironically, Minden vs. Jesuit (Loyola) 20-20.
- Longest Homecoming Win Streak: 7 from 1954-1960
- Longest Homecoming Losing Streak: 5 from 1999-2003
- Minden has pitched 14 shut outs on Homecoming, the most recent vs. Mansfield, 20-0 (2020)
- Minden has also been shut out 8 times on Homecoming, with 5 in a row coming from 1940-1946.
- The Returning Homecoming classes are 5-1-1 in their Homecoming games:
- 1954 – W vs. Natchitoches 24-19 (Minden won State Championship this year)
- 1964 – Tie vs. Jesuit (Loyola) 20-20
- 1974 – W vs Haughton 23-13
- 1984 – W vs Loyola 37-0
- 1994 – L vs Parkway 41-19
- 2004 – W vs Green Oaks 36-21
- 2014 – W vs Northwood 48-14
- Current Head Coach, Spencer Heard is 6-4 in Homecoming games at Minden. Best record for a Head Coach at Minden for Homecoming was Steve Brasher (1983-91) at 7-2.

Now to make a lengthy article…longer…. let’s take a quick look at the history vs. Loyola.
- Minden and Loyola (also played as St. John’s and Jesuit) have played each other off and on dating back to 1920, a 7-7 tie.
- Minden leads the all-time series at 27-11-2, this year’s match is the first since 2014, a 14-7 Minden win.
- Minden holds the longest winning streak in the series at 13, dating from 1921-1960. This also represents Minden’s longest winning streak against any school.
- Longest losing streak in the series is 5, from 1970-1974.
- Minden has shut out Loyola 8 times, the last a 37-0 win in 1984
- Minden has been shut out 3 times, the last a 27-0 loss in 1974
- Minden currently has a 7-game winning streak that started with the 1984 win mentioned earlier.
- Minden and St. John’s/Jesuit/Loyola have played 7 times on Homecoming, with Minden holding a 6-0-1 record. The first matchup occurred in 1958, a 56-13 Minden win, and the last matchup occurred in 1987, a 42-7 Minden win.
