City-Wide Blackout/Repairs Scheduled

Written by on August 1, 2023

After three days of assessing and planning, a timeline is now in place for the repairs to the damage at the Entergy Gilark Substation north of Minden. Tuesday evening, officials from Entergy, AEP/SWEPCO, and the City of Minden convened via conference call to develop a strategy for addressing the extensive damage at the Gilark Substation. The agreed-upon plan involves implementing a controlled power outage across the entire City on Thursday, August 3rd, starting at 10:00 p.m. The outage is anticipated to last between 4-6 hours.
The purpose of this controlled outage is to bypass the damaged section of the substation and then restore power to the City of Minden. By doing so, the necessary repairs can be carried out safely, allowing for safe and non-urgent repairs to be conducted on the substation.
Mayor Nick Cox says that the timing of the outage will be the most tolerable for citizens of Minden and no cooling stations will be necessary across the city.
